Selection: The Operations Manager is selected and appointed by the Dean.
Qualifications: The Operations Manager should be an experienced camper with good organizational and interpersonal skills. The ability to carry and move furniture and equipment is necessary. Some handyman and audiovisual technical skills are useful.
General Responsibilities: The Operations Manager functions as an assistant to the Dean, Volunteer Coordinator, and other program staff in the management of supplies, equipment, and facilitates before and during the conference.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Ensure that the inventory of supplies, equipment, and banner owned by Eliot Institute is removed from storage to appropriate locations on the first day.
2. Arrange for the prominent
display of the Eliot banner(s) throughout the conference.
3. Ensure that the First-Aid Kit is prominently located for use by campers,
and is equipped with the following:
Adhesive Tape
Pen and notebook
latex gloves
Alcohol
Peroxide
Rubbing alcohol
Aspirin
Scissors
Band-Aids
Sunburn/insect bite treatment (Caladryl)
Gauze
Syrup of Ipecac
sugar (diabetic crisis)
Ice packs
Tensor bandage
Needle (for slivers)
Thermometer
Tweezers
Airway (adult?) Mouth-to-mouth
anakit (bee/wasp sting - check expiration date)
antihistamine tablets (allergic reaction - check expiration date)
A current list of qualified volunteers who are available for first aid, along
with their housing locations.
4. Confer with the Dean regarding the use of various meeting rooms and sets them up accordingly each day (e.g. chairs for lectures, sound systems, screens, props, arrangements for social events).
5. Receive the set of master
keys from Naramata Centre given to the Dean. Keep and use them for the following:
if any campers inadvertently lock themselves out of their accommodation
to unlock, lock meeting spaces/building after Naramata Centre staff have
left for the day
6. Arrange for a campfire each evening at fire circle (assuming fire ban not in effect).
7. Arrange and supervises cleanup of common areas after each use.
8. Arrange for the return and storage of equipment and supplies after their use, both Eliots and Naramata Centres.
9. Maintain a high visibility throughout the conference, ensuring accessibility by Eliot campers, and serving as intermediary in problem areas that might arise concerning Naramata facilities and service.
10. Coordinate communication with Naramata management through the Dean, to ensure that malfunctioning or unsatisfactory supplies, equipment and facilities (lights, chairs, beds, machines, pianos, heating system, plumbing, etc.) are promptly repaired or replaced.
11. Develop a camp clean-up plan for the last day of the conference, assigning area coordinators, and distributing plastic garbage bags and maps with clean-up assignments. (Use Naramata Centre Ground Map available on site, with areas highlighted.)
12. Toward the end of the week, ensure that supplies are purchased to replenish the Waterfront Kit and the First-Aid Kit.
13. Ensure that all supplies and equipment belonging to Eliot Institute are accounted for, re-inventoried, and returned at the end of the conference to a storage location approved by the Dean.
14. Provide the Dean, at the end of the conference, with a written inventory of Eliot equipment and supplies for inclusion in the Deans Report to the Board.

and Code of Ethics from the Registrar; sign them and return.
